Trains delayed after school fire

The roof of the school has already partially collapsed

Trains in Chester have been delayed after a huge fire near a railway line in the city centre.

Firefighters were called to the derelict school in Victoria Road near the Northgate Arena just after 1600 BST on Monday.

Five engines and two aerial appliances are tackling the blaze.

Network Rail has been asked to suspend local services as there is concern that the building could collapse on to the railway line.

The roof has already partially caved in due to the fire.

Crews and building control officers are assessing the stability of the wall before deciding whether it is safe to allow the railway line to be reopened.
